Mumbai-Goa Tejas Express gets exclusively designed engine; to run at maximum speed of 160 km/hour

The first high-speed luxury Mumbai-Goa Tejas Express has now got a new powerful diesel engine that will start its power run from Monday. With this, the Mumbai-Goa to and fro journey is believed to become faster and safer. The new locomotive ‘WDP3A Loco’ arrived from Southern Railway and has been designed and especially run for Tejas Express. Reports state that the locomotive engine arrived in the city on June 15 while the remaining arrived on Sunday. Similar locomotives are being currently used by Rajdhani Express and Shatabdi Express.

The inaugural run of Tejas Express was on 24 May 2017 from Mumbai CST to Karmali, Goa where the train covered 551.7 kms in 8 hours and 30 minutes. The Express train will run at an average speed of 130 km/h (81 mph). With the new engine, Tejas Express can run at a speed of 160kmph, faster than the current engine, Hindustan Times reported. The report further added that the new engine can run on both alternate and direct current transmission and has powerful 16 cylinders four-stroke super turbo charge system.
