Salman Khan’s Eidi lands tomorrow. The stage is set and Bhai’s fans are ready with their firecrackers. After all, it’s not every day that they get to see a Salman Khan film in theatres. Tubelight, directed by Kabir Khan, stars Sohail Khan as Salman’s brother, and Chinese actor Zhu Zhu and child actor Martin Rey Tangu in pivotal roles.
All eyes are set on Tubelight and what kind of records it is all set to break. And from what early trends suggest, Salman Khan’s Tubelight is all set to earn more than Rs 300 crore in the country.
SCREEN COUNT
Box office figures suggest that Tubelight will easily cross the Rs 300 crore-mark in India. The film is releasing in about 9,500 to 10,000 screens worldwide and more than half that number is in India. If parallels are drawn with Bajrangi Bhaijaan, that film was released across 4,500 screens in India and resulted in a collection of more than Rs 300 crore at the box office in India. Now given that Tubelight is being released in more than 4,500 screens, the simple calculation says that the film will cross more than Rs 100 crore in its first four days itself. Tubelight has the Eid holiday (Monday) too to add to its collection.
SALMAN KHAN FILM AFTER A YEAR
The biggest draw in Tubelight is of course, Salman Khan. The superstar will be seen on the silver screen after one full year. His last release Sultan hit the theatres last Eid. Khan’s fans have been waiting with bated breath to watch Tubelight and the box office numbers will bear testimony to that.
WAR DRAMA
Apart from Salman Khan there is Kabir Khan on the director’s chair in Tubelight. The earlier two films where Kabir and Salman have worked together, Ek Tha Tiger and Bajrangi Bhaijaan, have both been blockbusters. Both the films were released on Eid, Ek Tha Tiger in 2012 and Bajrangi Bhaijaan in 2015, and both were the biggest blockbusters of the respective years. With Tubelight too, the magic is going to be recreated.
CURIOSITY SURROUNDING LITTLE BOY
There’s a lot of curiosity surrounding the story of Salman Khan’s Tubelight. While it is known that it is the official adaptation of the 2015 American war drama Little Boy, everyone is waiting to watch what new Kabir Khan has done with the story. The director has picked up an interesting film to re-make. Little Boy is a war drama, and the backdrop of the 1962 India-China war, coupled with Salman Khan and his relationship with his real and reel brother Sohail Khan, are all ingredients for a blockbuster.
ZHU ZHU AND MATIN REY TANGU
There’s been enough conjecture about the role of Chinese actor Zhu Zhu in Tubelight. Zhu Zhu has been missing from film promotions too, and it is only after the release of the film that we will be able to find out exaclty what her character is all about in Tubelight. Apart from Zhu Zhu of course is Salman’s cute co-star, child actor Matin Rey Tangu. In Bajrangi Bhaijaan, Salman’s on-screen equation with child actor Harshaali Malhotra was appreciated by everyone and the same is expected from his relation with Tangu too.
NO BIG RELEASE ON JUNE 30
Tubelight will get a clear window for two weeks at the box office in India. There are no big releases on June 30 given the fact that no one is willing to see their film swallowed by the mammoth that is Tubelight. After a gap of two weeks from the release of Tubelight, i.e. on July 7, Sridevi-starrer Mom hits the screens.
